Minimum Wage Requirements
There are federal, state, and local minimum wage requirements.
Check with the following agencies for current minimum wage
information:
California Department of Industrial
Relations, Industrial Welfare Commission is responsible for labor law
in California including wages, hours of work, and conditions of
employment. The California minimum wage is $8.00 per hour. A

the state minimum wage is available on their Web site.
U.S. Department of Labor (DOL)
enforces the Fair Employment and Labor Standards Act, which sets minimum
and overtime pay rates. The federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour as of July 24, 2009.

The City and County of San Francisco, Office of Labor
Standards Enforcement, enforces a Minimum Compensation Ordinance
("Living Wage/Living Health") that applies to certain employers in the
city and county. Requirements vary, and the rate is adjusted based
on increases in the regional consumer price index.
