There are federal, state, and local minimum wage requirements.  Check with the following agencies for current minimum wage information:

U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) enforces the Fair Employment and Labor Standards Act, which sets minimum and overtime pay rates.  The federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour as of July 24, 2009.  A comparison of state minimum wages is available on DOL's Web site.

The City and County of San Francisco, Office of Labor Standards Enforcement, enforces a Minimum Compensation Ordinance ("Living Wage/Living Health") that applies to certain employers in the city and county.  Requirements vary, and the rate is adjusted based on increases in the regional consumer price index.
