License Requirements, Fees, and Examination Information:
Certified Engineering Geologist

Examination Requirements: Certified Engineering Geologist Examination is a three (3) hour examination administered at a computer based testing center.

Background Check: Completing a background check is required for licensure. All applicants are required to submit fingerprints prior to sitting for examination. License: Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG)

Exam Locations: The Certified Engineering Geologist Examination is given statewide at designated locations. For more information, please refer to the Board’s website at: http://www.bpelsg.ca.gov/applicants/exam_schedule.shtml.

Education Requirement: Graduation from a college or university with a major in geological sciences or any other discipline that, in the opinion of the Board, is relevant to geology.

Experience Requirement: Applicant must be a licensed Professional Geologist with either three (3) years of engineering geology related work experience under the supervision of a Certified Engineering Geologist; or five (5) years experience in responsible charge of professional engineering geology work. Special License Requirements: Must be a licensed Professional Geologist in California to take the examination.

Average Time to Process Application: Three (3) months.
