License Requirements, Fees, and Examination Information:
Professional Geologist

Examination Requirements: National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG) Fundamentals of Geology (FG) examination (4 hours), Practice of Geology (PG) examination (4 hours), and California Specific (CSE) examination (3 hours).

Background Check: Completing a background check is required for licensure. All applicants are required to submit fingerprints prior to sitting for examination. License: Professional Geologist (PG)

Exam Locations: The ASBOG FG and PG exams alternate between Northern and Southern California. Please refer to the examination schedule on the Board’s website at: http://www.bpelsg.ca.gov/applicants/exam_schedule.shtml.

Education Requirement: Graduation from a college or university with a major in geological sciences or any other discipline that, in the opinion of the Board, is relevant to geology.

Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of professional geological experience of a character satisfactory to the Board (after receiving a qualifying degree), demonstrating that the applicant is qualified to assume responsible charge of this work upon licensure as a geologist.
