License Requirements, Fees, and Examination Information:
A life-only agent is authorized to transact insurance coverage on human lives, including benefit of endowment and annuities, and may include benefits in the event of death or dismemberment by accident and benefits for disability income.
Qualifications:
• Minimum Age: 18 years
• Residency: California residency is not required
• Pre-licensing Experience/Education: 20 hours of an approved life-only course and 12-hour approved course on ethics and the California Insurance Code
• Entity: Individual and Business Entity
Fees:
• Application: $170 for two-year term
• Renewal: $170 each two-year term
• Fingerprint processing fee: The fee at the California Department of Insurance (CDI) test centers is $58.30. The fee at PSI test centers is $68.95.

• Examination information: PSI Services, LLC, schedules CDI's life-only agent applicant examinations. For scheduling examinations use PSI's Examination Scheduling Service at http://media.psiexams.com/LC/apps/Attention.htm. Individuals may schedule their examinations with PSI either online or by telephone.
• Fingerprint impressions: Fingerprint impressions are required for all unlicensed resident and most non-resident applicants
• Continuing education: Complete 24 hours of continuing education that includes 3 hours of ethics during each two-year license term.
• Average Time to Process Application: two to three weeks
