License Requirements, Fees, and Examination Information:
Nursing Home Administrators of institutions licensed as a skilled nursing facility or intermediate care facility in the Health and Safety Code.

Fees: Administrator-In-Training(AIT): $192
Nursing Home Administrator Exam: $187
Nursing Home Administrator License: $215
Initial license: prorated, based on birth month and year/date application is received.
Renewal period: Every two years, $215 fee

Exam(State): Four times per year through out California.

Examination Frequency: The Nursing Home Administrators Program is required to administer a licensure examination at least once each year.

Experience Requirement: 1) A Master's Degree in nursing home administration or a related health administration field. The Master's program shall have included an internship/residency program of at least 480 hours in a skilled nursing facility or an intermediate care facility, or,
2) A bachelor’s degree and approved AIT program of at least 1,000 hours, or,
3) Ten (10) years full-time experience immediately preceding 15 years as a registered nurse in a nursing home and a Program-approved AIT program of at least 1,000 hours (at least five of the ten years of work experience shall have been in a supervisory position), or,
4) Ten (10) years full-time work experience immediately preceding 15 years in any department of a nursing home, 60 semester or 90 quarter units of college or university courses and a Program-approved AIT program of at least 1,000 hours (at least five years of the ten years of work experience shall have been in a supervisory position), or,
5) A current nursing home administrator license in another state, proof of meeting minimum education and licensure requirements, which existed in California at the time the applicant was originally licensed in the other state.

Average Time to Process Application: Administrator-In-Training: 30-45 working days, Reciprocity: 30 working days, Examination: 30 working days.
